No Light / No Dark – The Carrack

For the last couple of months I have been contributing to the Durham-based Clarion Content. In addition to being another outlet for my writing, photography and videos, it has also been an opportunity for me to swap ideas with some pretty sharp people and end up in some places that I might not normally happen upon. Such was the case when Clarion writer Justin Laidlaw a.k.a Buddy Ruski asked me if I wanted to come and take some pictures at the Lilac Shadows Album Release Party. I had never heard of the them but after reading his piece on the event and how it was fusing art and music I looked forward to checking it out. Below are some of the pictures I took while at the show. Sure, the music was definitely outside my normal realm but the energy and creativity in the room was electric. As I sat on the floor taking pictures I could feel the old wood floors pulsing up and down then found myself thinking about very uncool subjects like “fire codes” and “wood beam tensile strength.” Below are some pictures from the show and more can be found here:

On display was artwork from dozens of local and national artists which were created and submitted in response to the record itself. Each piece of art will have a limited run of cassettes bearing the artist’s work.
