Now that I have a little one running around I always appreciate when someone throws a party that is kid friendly without being kid centric. Where there is great food, cold beer and loud music so if your kid starts throwing a fit, its simply drowned out by the sweet sounds of a guitar, horns and drums. Phil Cook and his wife Heather of Shindigs outdid themselves last weekend when they threw the Hey Pocky Way Mardi Gras Primer at Trotter Hall in the Central Park District of Durham. They enlisted the help of Ponysaurus Brewery, Brewmaster Keil Jansen was onsite to personally serve up beer and Ricky Moore of the famed Saltbox was there to prepare a fantastic low country boil. All proceeds from the days event was given to Hillside High’s famed drumline.
The music line-up kept people’s feet moving with Bulltown Strutters, Boneslingers, Hillside High School Drumline and Phil Cook and the Guitarheels. I put the above video together so you get an idea of the laid back New Orleans vibe that surrounded Trotter Hall last weekend. I took the opportunity to give the big camera a rest (Serena used it to take stills) and test out the new GoPro camera, strapping it on a drummer, amp and shoving it in peoples faces as they navigated the task of eating crawfish. So enjoy the video and for more pictures from the day please go here.
